 Not Only No iPod

  2. But, what is there that we can do? As Chinese, we cannot just sit by and watch our bretherns get taken advantage of, yet those of us who have the luck and privilege to enjoy these products can no longer live without their conviniences. Furthermore, as you’ve pointed out, by boycotting these products all we’re doing is making those people who are doing what little they can to survive lose their jobs, if the few people who care enough can make a difference at all.

Globalisation will always have its victims. Even if Apple closes down all their sweatshops in China, they will simply move them somewhere else where they can get cheap labour. And if not for these cheap labour, would we have our plasma TV? Our cheap computers? Our multi-purpose mobile phones? Is there a solution to the problems created by globalisation that will create fair paying jobs for those who need it most, and still allow us to maintain our high standards of living? Even if we’re willing to give up our techno-gadgetries, would that help those living in poverty?

Is there a solution to the problems created by globalisation at all? Or is it okay for us to simply admit there is a problem, but don’t even try to remedy it, or say that it is impossible to solve? Reading through the replies at Endgadget, it seems that people are only ready to condemn or defend, but never ready to think of a solution.

(Sorry I can’t type my reply in Chinese… that would probably take me an hour and a half. orz)

  3. Sadly most citizens tend to admit it, or put off by the fact that we still have such a high ratio of unemployment … plus exerting one’s influence in China is a tricky subject, political strike isn’t encouraged…

At least one of the those comments actually made some sense…

I agree this is just another propaganda against Apple. And they respond fairly well:

propaganda – big talkings = back to square one
